A group of Iranian businessmen formed the Iranian Airways Company, which operated domestic and regional freights, as well as weekly fright services to Europe. It fleet consisted of Dc-3's, Dc-4's and Viscounts.

A second private airline was formed, Persian Air Services. Initially it operated only freight services to Europe, but in 1960 it commenced passenger services to several European destinations using leased equipment
